Ausdrücke der Körpersprache im Koran und ihre Übersetzungsproblematik ins Deutsche

This paper investigates some examples of body language as a form of non-verbal communication that is verbally expressed in the Holy Qur’an and examines the problem of translating it into German.  Spoken language is often insufficient to describe some emotions, so people use body language to show their emotions and attitudes. For this reason, many expressions have been observed in the Glorious Qur’an that indicate the use of body language, for example: blackening the face to express sadness, biting the Hand with the teeth to indicate remorse, slapping the face to express astonishment etc. The Holy Qur'an intends to invest visual as well as linguistic data, to push the recipient to understand the discourse based on these data. This type of nonverbal communication is culture bound and this undoubtedly represents problematic in the translation process, especially if it is translated from the Qur’an. The distinctive and unique style of the Qur’an gives such body language expressions some semiotic properties, which require exceptional attention from translators to transfer these characteristics into German, so that they have an impact on the target readers similar to what it has on Arabic readers.
